Battle With the King
A tense match with my badminton coach. Will I win or run away crying?
Would you take the risk and accept a one-on-one with your coach? My badminton coach challenged me to a game. I was wondering. "Is he going to offer something if I win?" All of a sudden, as if he was reading my mind, he said"If I win, you clean all the birdies right there, and if you win, you will skip cleaning birdies. I'll give you 19 points and if you get to 21, you win" It was a nice deal actually, but I didn't know what was going to happen.
The battle started. I could totally feel the A.C. I think that meant I was nervous and felt some useless stuff. He served first, and it was long so I stepped back a bit, then smashed. The birdie landed on the end of the court, but the coach was on the OTHER end of the court. So I thought, "YES!" He tried to reach for it, but he couldn't reach it.
After I won the first round, he said, "Bro, you're locked in! You just need one more point to win!"
However, I got tired really quickly and my coach started to smash to the corner of the court. I'm not even lying. I lost 5 rounds in 2 minutes! For a badminton player, that's really, really embarrassing. As time passed, I was losing hope. I lowkey wanted to use a time machine to go back 10 minutes before, and say a big NO to the coach when he asked me.
As minutes passed by, the score became 5:20,7:20, 13:20 and.. sadly it became 20:20. "Bro, can you go easy now? I'm seriously getting boiled." I complained. Then he said, "You do realize I went easy on you on the first round right? That was easy to get" All of a sudden, it became quiet think it was because both of us were locked in to win the first round of the deuce. He served long, and I lifted the birdie. Immediately. I regretted doing that. I was sure he's going to smash it But what? He dropped it low!
I got so tense and frozen, so I missed it so bad. After that crazy mistake, the score became 21:20. In the last round, I actually had to win in order to get to deuce again. He served long when I was on the front of the court, so had to back up and drop the birdie low. He lifted, and I spiked as hard as I could. However, because I was really tired, I hitted it without any power. I thought, "Oh no. It's not going to go over the net!!" Sadly, my thoughts became true.
When I asked my coach for a rematch, I realized, “I think I have enough health & strength for a rematch!” I learned that I can’t beat anyone if I am not trying my best.
