April: Compare/Contrast

Contest Theme: Compare and contrast two things; let them battle it out in an engaging article

Contest Prompt:

Choose two things from one niche and write a detailed breakdown comparing and contrasting them.

Examples of niches and things you can compare:

• Food

  • Two restaurants in your hometown

  • Two of your family’s homemade recipes

• Sports

  • Your two favorite basketball players

  • Two Olympic gold medalists

• Tech

  • Electric cars vs gasoline-powered cars

  • Apple iPhone vs Android

• Travel

  • Traveling in the U.S. vs internationally

  • Two different destinations

• Books

  • Physical books vs e-books

  • Two fantasy authors

  • Two characters (a hero and a villain, for example)

• Movies

  • Two of the same movies (but different adaptations)

  • Two Disney movies

Deadline:

Due April 30, 2026 at 11:59pm

Guidelines:

• You must be enrolled in The Teen Journal to compete in writing contests

• 350 words minimum (no max)

• This must be a new article that has not yet been published on the Teen Journal website

• No late submissions accepted

• Must use this template to submit your content

Prizes:

• 1st place wins $25 & gets award on their blog

• 2nd & 3rd place get awards on their blog

You will submit your draft just like any submission (use button below). We will still ask you to edit it, but as long as you get your draft in by the deadline you are entered into the contest.

Winners always announced 10 days after deadline.
