May: Historical Fiction
Contest Theme: Choose any historical conflict and invent a fictional tale whose main character must face the issues of their day
Contest Prompt:
What historical conflicts excite you the most? The French Revolution? The Civil Rights Movement? The Salem Witch Trials?
Do some research on this historical time period and write a short work of fiction about a main character whose own life and problems intersect with the historical conflict.
You must include the links to 3 historical sources you used throughout your writing process.
Deadline:
Due May 31, 2026 at 11:59pm
Guidelines:
You must be enrolled in The Teen Journal to compete in writing contests
3-5 pages single-spaced (or more, Iām flexible)
This must be a new story that has not yet been published on the Teen Journal website
No late submissions accepted
Prizes:
1st place wins $25 & gets award on their blog
2nd & 3rd place get awards on their blog

You will submit your draft just like any submission (use button below). We will still ask you to edit it, but as long as you get your draft in by the deadline you are entered into the contest.
Winners always announced 10 days after deadline.
