September: Short Story + Twist of Fate Contest
Contest Theme: “Short Story”
Contest Prompt:
Write a short fiction story in any genre that has a twist of fate at the end.
Perhaps your characters desire something greatly: love, success, acceptance. Perhaps your characters are wishing something doesn’t happen to them: losing, dying, rejection. Whatever the conflict or drama, there must be a twist of fate at the end that either keeps them from achieving their goals or allows them the happiness they desire.

Due September 30, 2025 at 11:59pm
Guidelines:
You must be enrolled in the Teen Journal Journey program to compete in writing contests
Short story must be under 5 pages SINGLE-SPACED
Story can be in any genre
This must be a new story that has not yet been published on the Teen Journal website
No late submissions accepted
Prizes:
1st place: $25 + 2,000 points
2nd place = 1,000 points
3rd place = 500 points
Submit:
You will submit your draft just like any submission (use button below). We will still ask you to edit it, but as long as you get your draft in by the deadline you are entered into the contest.
Winners always announced 10 days after deadline.
